Hartley's was established in the fall of 2014 by Melanie G. (Hartley) of Elk River, MN. Mel has been employed at a local shelter for the past six years. It was during this time that she decided she wanted to do everything in her power to help those less fortunate. More specifically, she wanted to help women who had become victims of domestic abuse. After months of careful planning and hard work, her dream finally came true. Hartley's was officially opened in October of 2015.

shelter and services for abused women and their children
Hartley's Safe House is a shelter for women and their children who are victims of domestic violence. We provide a 60-day stay, an extension may be granted as long as our guest(s) are working toward their goals. We understand that safe, affordable housing is not always readily available and we want to give women enough time to collect themselves and feel comfortable before seeking permanent affordable housing. We do our best to provide a warm, homelike environment in hopes that women will opt to stay and work towards building a more positive life rather than returning to their abuser. Our number one priority is to give women the opportunity and resources necessary to escape an abusive relationship, and to instill in them that they can live an abuse free life.
